Richardson, Texas -- May 14, 1997 -- Cyrix Corporation (NASDAQ: CYRX) announced today that Melvin Sharp, age 62, has rejoined the Cyrix board of directors. Mr. Sharp was a director of the Company from 1991 until he left the board in April 1996. "We are extremely pleased that Mel has rejoined the Cyrix board. Mel is well recognized in the industry for his understanding of intellectual property rights issues and the need to protect those rights. He will provide valuable assistance to Cyrix as we move forward," said Cyrix Chairman Berry Cash.
Mr. Sharp has been a partner or shareholder in Sharp, Comfort & Merrett, a law firm, since February 1993. Mr. Sharp served as president of Innovation Strategies Ltd., a consulting business for intellectual property matters, from January 1992 to February 1993, and he was employed by Texas Instruments as a vice president, corporate staff and general patent counsel from 1979 to September 1991. Mr. Sharp also served as European legal director and Semiconductor Group patent counsel of TI from 1962 to 1978.
Prior to joining TI, he was a patent examiner for the United States Patent Office in Washington D.C. Mr. Sharp has a B.S. in electrical engineering from Drexel Institute of Technology and a law degree from George Washington University. Mr. Sharp also serves as a director of Smith Alarm Systems.
