Cyrix’s 6x86MX™ Processor Helps Fujitsu Bring "Indiana" to Asia
PC Maker to Use New MMX™-Enhanced Processor in Consumer-Friendly Multimedia PCs

Richardson, Texas — July 9, 1997 — As evidence of the growing worldwide acceptance of the Cyrix 6x86MX processor, the company announced today Fujitsu ICL Trading Asia Pte Ltd is incorporating the 6x86MX into its new Indiana MX Series of multimedia PCs. Marketed as multimedia- and Internet-ready PCs for the home market, Fujitsu will sell PR166, PR200 and PR233 versions in Singapore and Malaysia initially. Introduced just last month, the 6x86MX microprocessor delivers Pentium II-class performance at half the price.

"The 6x86MX microprocessor and the Indiana MX Series of PCs offer our customers an easier and more powerful way to explore the digital domain," said Alex Leung, vice president of operations, Fujitsu ICL Trading Asia Ltd. "We chose Cyrix’s microprocessor for its ability to deliver high speed and outstanding performance, but at an affordable price point for the home user."

The Indiana MX Series PCs are designed specifically for the home and small business market, where the key criterion is price/performance value. These multimedia- and Internet-ready PCs feature a 16X CD-ROM, S3 virge 3D PCI graphics card, 33.6 fax/data modem, 1.6, 3.2 or 4.3GB hard drive, 2 or 4MB VRAM, 15 inch SVGA monitor and Windows 95 pre-installed. "The 6x86MX microprocessor gives customers the ability to offer leading-edge multimedia performance at an affordable price," said Jay Swent, acting CEO, Cyrix. "Fujitsu has obtained its PC leadership position in Southeast Asia by being an early adopter of new technology, but delivering that technology at a price consumers can afford."

The 6x86MX processor is an MMX-enhanced CPU offering the highest level of Windows 95 performance available for mainstream desktop PCs. According to XXCal, the 6x86MX provides Winstone 97 performance on par with similarly configured Pentium II systems running at 233 MHz on Windows 95. The 6x86MX’s quadrupled (64K) internal cache, enhanced memory management and other architectural features allow the processor to outperform all other competitors’ processors running on identically configured systems.
